It’s time to come out of the dark.
When a gifted singer’s soulful voice fills the sanctuary, we see a light. It inspires us to dance, shout, and lift our hands.
When a gifted neurosurgeon’s skillful hands remove a brain tumor, there’s a light illuminating the path to better health for his patient.
When a chef creates a culinary masterpiece, there’s a delightful light of pure joy on each plate for her customers.
FAITH IS LIGHT
So imagine if fear silenced the singer, limited thinking convinced the neurosurgeon there’s no money for medical school, and insecurity kept the chef out of the kitchen. They would not only lose out on the blessing of their gifts and talents, the joy of accomplishing the goal but so would we.
Taking a creative idea, a deep desire, a purposeful passion and turning it into a light for others takes faith—bold faith. It requires the risk of failure. It requires the understanding that the victory won’t always show up in our wallet, but the dividends of our deeds will always pay the bills. The business we’re waiting to launch, the nonprofit we’re hesitant to start, the book we don’t think we can write, the love and forgiveness we’re withholding, it’s all light. Faith is light.
“No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:15-16)
BE THE LIGHT
This scripture reminds us that other people are always watching. Yes, some are watching and waiting for us to fail, but most are watching and rooting for us. Why? Because when our faith is on display, shining brightly, it flips a switch in someone else.
They say, “Hey, if she can do that, so can I.”
They stop saying I can’t and instead ask why not?
They witness our faith in action, the labor of our hands, our hunger to finish the race no matter the outcome. More importantly, they see the source of our light: God.
“This little light of mine; I’m gonna let it shine! Everywhere I go, I’m gonna let it shine.”
